Topic: Ohio Department of Transportation Notification Award

The City of Port Clinton infrastructure application for the Safe Routes to School (STRS) was selected by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) program for funding.  The application was submitted in partnership with Ottawa County Commissions, Ottawa County Engineer, Port Clinton City Schools and the City of Port Clinton. 

Projects were ranked based on many factors including: proximity to a bicycle or pedestrian crash, traffic speed, percentage of K-8 students’ expected to benefit and the community’s commitment to SRTS.  Once ranked, projects were reviewed by a selection committee comprised of ODOT staff, along with representatives from education, health and advocacy.

ODOT will provide up to a maximum of $348,538 for sidewalk construction with ADA compliant ramps, signage, pavement markings and other infrastructure items on Fremont Road.

The funding is contingent on completion of a final scope meeting with ODOT district representation and the project sponsor.

Construction funds for the project are available during State Fiscal Year 2022.
