City of Port Clinton & Park District of Ottawa County Recreational Amenities Survey and Plan

Public Open House Announcement:

November 30, 2023, 7:00 pm The Arts Garage

317 W. Perry Street

Port Clinton, Ohio 43452

  1. Goal of the Project

The City of Port Clinton aims to increase within the community availability of unique, accessible and inclusive multigenerational recreational experiences, informed by best practices in urban planning and recreational design, with an eye toward grant funding for construction of improvements with low maintenance costs.

The Port Clinton Recreational Amenities Survey and Plan will determine location and design of park improvements in the city and identify transportation linkages to multi-use trails in development throughout Ottawa County. The outcome will be an action plan for achievable recreational improvements in the near term. This planning project is possible thanks to the generous financial support of the Park District of Ottawa County.

The project will develop viable and desirable recreational improvements based on public engagement and feedback, public right-of-way and access, and availability of funding, among other factors. The project will determine where an amenity can and should be placed for maximum impact in the community.

A Public Open House will be held Thursday, November 30, at 7:00 pm at The Arts Garage (317 W. Perry St.) to present goals of the project and collect community feedback on early concepts. The City invites all community members to attend and contribute to this exciting planning process. Additionally, an online survey will begin mid-November to help inform the plan.

  • History

City of Port Clinton Recreational Amenities and Plan

Public Open House Announcement Nov. 2023

The City completed within just the last two years significant recreational improvements, including the Waterfront Walkway funded in part by Ohio Department of Transportation, new Portage Park playground funded in part by the Park District of Ottawa County, and new comfort station at the Port Clinton Lighthouse.

The City seeks to build on these recent successes in a deliberate and sustainable manner: smart, meaningful investments that will endure for decades for the enjoyment of residents.

  • Schedule

The City launched the project in October 2023, following passage of legislation by City Council approving a contract with OHM Advisors, a professional planning and design firm selected following an RFQ process authorized by City Council in August. The City intends to begin construction of the first recreational amenity by Spring 2024, with a ribbon cutting tentatively planned for Summer 2024.

An online survey launched November 13. The survey can be accessed at the website https://ohmplanning.typeform.com/PCAmenities.

The November open house and survey are the first of a series of community feedback events planned through February 2024.
